A movie, a transformation, our neighbors alone and the power of hope.

Can a movie change your life? I think so! We've all been together for awhile. My husband, daughter and myself were searching for a movie we could all enjoy--may I assume you understand this dynamic? We found a truly transformational film we all deeply connected with. Breakthrough is the true story of an event that brings together a community of people who choose to believe in hope. Together they have a story that reminds us about the power of connection.

There are moments during any crisis when hope eludes us- when it feels distant and unrealistic, when science or logic or our perception tell us that there is nothing to hold onto. It’s in those very vulnerable times when we need to reach out and even more believe in the power of goodness and love.

There are people right now who are alone, have no family. Some are fearing eviction, some are seeking into the depths of despair and hope is feeling further and further away from their grasp. They need us to remember them! They need all of us to be their hope. We all collectively need to be the positive life energy for the person next to us who can’t find the strength.

The movie, Breakthrough, calls this prayer but I think it can be called whatever you need it to be called depending on your world view. It transcends religion— it’s a life force that binds is and connects us and keeps us going. I believe it’s this energy that will help us through any dark time and focus us on the light. How we do this and the personal lessons we need to learn are the transformative opportunity of any life event.

One thing is for sure this is a time for plenty of opportunity to learn about ourselves and how we WANT to live. Every day the obstacles being placed in front of us are allowing us a chance to pause and ask: WHAT DO I VALUE? So much has been written about this as a time to fans form ourselves but what does that really mean?

For me it means re- evaluating what is most important. I truly believe that our lives are made up of “recreations.” Times when we experience something significant that influences our daily life and causes us to reflect (if we are willing) on all that we hold dear and what is least important.

It is no coincidence for me that we are going through this time of trial during the season of two significant major religious holidays. Easter and Passover represent a significant event where people stared over, recreated themselves, began anew and each of these holidays are celebrated in the time of year that represents springing forth into a new beginning.

As I reflect on my own life lessons to these last weeks the list is long! Here are just a few:

1. My family is precious to me and I commit to spending more quality time with them

2. My rushing around to get things done isn’t productive or efficient - slowing down to notice what is most important is most vital to my maintaining my priorities

3. Planning healthy meals ahead and eating more mindfully takes time and planning but it’s well worth it

4. Getting out in the sun every day is a vital part of self care

5. Hugging my loved ones- family and friends is so important to me! When we can hug again, I will be so happy!

This is just a few of my list- how about you? How do you intend to tranhen sform your life into a value- centered life this spring?
